Starting from 9:00 am on 11th December , 2021, the opening ceremony and the keynote conference of the 10th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment (SuDBE2021) and the 11th Conference of Green Building Council Alliance for Hot Summer & Cold Winter Climate Zones were grandly held in Chongqing, China. The scientific committee was chaired by Prof. Xuhong Zhou, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former president of Chongqing University. Professor Baizhan Li from Chongqing University was the chair of the conference.

The series of biennially International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building and Environment (SuDBE) was initiated in 2003 by Prof. Baizhan Li, the Director of National Centre for International Research of Low-carbon Green Buildings, and it was co-organized by the University of Cambridge and University of Reading. Nine conferences have been successfully held so far. The SuDBE conference mainly focuses on the topics of sustainable design and operation, building energy efficiency, green building, low-carbon technology, ecological cities, renewable energy, thermal comfort, indoor air quality and so on. It has attracted scholars worldwide to share their experiences. . The conference theme is "Contribution of Green Buildings to Carbon Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality". The conference aims to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative cooperation, and to discuss the timely developed direction and mission of green and low-carbon buildings in China in the context of the "3060” carbon target.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Runming Yao from Chongqing University, director of Joint International Research Laboratory of Green Buildings and Built Environments, one of the conference organizers. Prof. Hanlong Liu, the executive vice president of Chongqing University, Youwei Wang, Director of the Green Building and Energy Conservation Committee of the Chinese Society for Urban Science, Yuhong Li, Former Secondary Inspector of the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Aixing Han, Deputy Director of Chongqing Housing and Urban-Rural Development Committee Dong Yong, Professors Alan Short and Professor Stuart Green, Co-Chairs of the conference, and Ling Zhang, the Vice Chairwomen of the Chongqing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

The conference aims to contributing to the national "3060” carbon target with different sessions’ theme on climate adaptations/solutions to urban/construction, green structural engineering, low carbon green geotechnical engineering, indoor environment & comfort and health, sustainable buildings and building energy efficiency, smart low carbon development of urban gas, smart technology and green operation management. The conference comprises 21 keynote speeches, 7 subject forums and 2 student forums. The conference invited 19 experts from 9 countries and region including UK, Norway, Germany, Finland and Sweden to give special reports. More than 150 experts, scholars and student representatives from Chongqing University, Reading University, Tsinghua University and other famous universities, research institutes, consulting companies, design companies, construction units, construction enterprises, supervision enterprises, and equipment manufacturers at home and abroad made online and on-stage oral presentations. The conference was visited online more than 10,000 times, and the conference photos were viewed online more than 5,000 times.
