The 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building And Environment (SuDBE 2011)

World Renewable Energy Asia Regional Conference

     On October 28, 2011, The 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development in Building And Environment (SuDBE 2011) and World Renewable Energy Asia Regional Conference were grandly held in Chongqing. Professor Li Baizhan of Chongqing University served as the chairman of the conference. The conference was hosted by Chongqing University, co-organized by the World Renewable Energy Society, University of Cambridge, University of Reading, University of Purdue, University of Aalborg, Tsinghua University, Hong Kong university and Central South University. The conference was strongly supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chongqing Municipal Government, the Chongqing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing Municipal Construction Committee, Chongqing Foreign Economic and Trade Commission, China Green Building and Energy Conservation Professional Committee, and Chongqing Green Building Professional Committee, the Wang Kuancheng Education Foundation and other institutions. More than 300 experts, scholars, students and representatives from over 20 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the Mainland of China attended the meeting. Nearly 120 overseas representatives, including internationally renowned university presidents, deans, directors, well-known professors, international society, industry association presidents, international academic journal editors and other international leading experts attended the conference. The conference received more than 500 papers and abstracts, of which nearly 200 papers were included in various SCI and EI journals.

During the conference, the signing ceremony of the China UK Network of Low Carbon Green Building and Eco-City Alliance, the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between the Architecture Department of Chongqing University and the University of London College of Architecture and Environment (UCL) and the appointment ceremony of visiting professors of Chongqing University were also held.  This series of cooperation will help build the construction of Chongqing's top international cooperation base, encourage research and education exchanges between China and the UK in the field of low-carbon green buildings and eco-cities, create the international development direction of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of Chongqing University with the faculty as the main body, and to promote the opportunities for university students to interact with internationally renowned experts.

The conference focused on key issues related to building and environmental sustainability and renewable energy use, including six conference themes: sustainable building environment design, building energy conservation and emission reduction and low carbon technology, urban ecological environment and green building, renewable energy utilization and carbon dioxide recovery, indoor microclimate and indoor thermal and humid environment, indoor air pollution control and indoor air quality. In the special guest report and special report of the conference, experts and scholars respectively delivered a wonderful speech around the theme of the conference, which attracted warm applause from the audience. Many participants asked questions and interacted with the experts on the report content. In the chapter field, nearly 100 well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad gave wonderful speeches on topics such as “indoor environment”, “green building”, “renewable energy”, “sustainable development”, “building energy conservation” and “low carbon”and clarified their respective opinions. After the three seminars, the participating experts and representatives also conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the topics of “Chinese-English low-carbon cities”, “indoor environment and children's health” and “green building assessment”.

This conference has positively promoted the sustainable use of renewable energy, construction and environment in Chongqing, and greatly promoted the future development of Chongqing's related industry chain in this field.
